Press Release: Gloria Jones & The Tiaras on 45RPM 7″ Vinyl
By Michael Greig Thomas
“Forming The Light of Love Wax Co. imprint has been a dream that never ends”
You’re in for a treat…
For decades, the original performance of “Gone With The Wind (is My Love)” by Gloria Jones was buried, lost, and forgotten. Lou Barretto and Rod Bumgardner, the writers of the record, discovered the unused master on acetate in Ron’s basement in 2010. Recorded at Nashville West Recording studio, the original master was not to be released.
Unable to reach an agreement with Gloria’s management, Lou found a replacement performer in Rita Graham, a jazz singer who went on to become one of Ray Charles’ Raelettes. “Gone With The Wind (Is My Love)” was then released on the Dore imprint in 1967.
The Tiaras, then consisting of Joyce Williamson, Latisha Harvell, and Edna Woods, performed backing vocals on the record. Originally from Orange Country, they reside in Los Angeles to this day. Woods went on to back Tina Turner as an Ikette during the 80s, touring throughout the UK and US. Paired with B-side “You’re My Man” by The Tiaras, the record is available as a limited edition pressing, Issued on a custom tri-color sleeve evocative of the Dore imprint.
Light of Love Wax Co. is honored to release the full, original mix of Gloria Jones and The Tiaras’s “Gone With The Wind (Is My Love)” Mastered specifically for vinyl by Grammy®-award winning engineer Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering in Los Angeles from Lou Barretto’s archival acetate.
This imprint was founded as a vehicle to help support Music & Film schools in West Africa. Proceeds from every Light of Love Wax Co. sale helps support this cause.
